Personal care at home
Bathing, dressing and getting to the bathroom are private things to need help with. The right person, the same person, makes it easier.

The short answer
Personal care is hands-on help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating and moving around. Florida law does not allow companions and homemakers to do hands-on care, so ask who will actually be giving it. Aster Care's certified nursing assistants provide it with nurse oversight.
What personal care covers
- Bathing, showering and grooming
- Dressing and getting ready for the day
- Toileting and continence care
- Moving safely: bed to chair, chair to walker, up and down steps
- Help with eating when needed
Signs it may be time
- A fall, or a fear of falling, especially in the bathroom.
- Wearing the same clothes, or noticeable changes in hygiene.
- A family caregiver who is hurting their back or losing sleep.
Who does it, and how we keep it steady
Florida law separates companion work from hands-on care. Our CNAs and aides pass Level 2 background screening before meeting a client, and a nurse supervises the plan. Meeting the caregiver first is part of how we match people.
How it gets paid
Medicaid Long-Term Care covers personal care on your plan of care. iBudget covers personal supports for people who qualify. Children under 21 on Medicaid can get Personal Care Services at home or in the community. Otherwise, it is private pay. Medicare does not pay for personal care when that is the only care a person needs.
We serve families across Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties.
Questions families ask
Will a man be sent to bathe my mother?
Tell us what she would be comfortable with. We take that seriously when matching.
Can my relative be paid to do this?
Sometimes. See paid family caregivers.
