Companion care and homemaker services
Sometimes the problem is not medical. It is the groceries, the laundry, a long quiet day, and nobody close by to notice when something changes.

The short answer
Companion and homemaker services are non-medical help: meals, light housekeeping, laundry, errands, rides and company. Florida law says companions and homemakers do not give hands-on personal care, so if bathing or toileting help is needed too, ask about personal care. Aster Care serves Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco.
What it includes
| Companion | Homemaker |
|---|---|
| Conversation and company, at home or on outings | Light housekeeping and laundry |
| Going along to appointments and errands | Grocery shopping and meal preparation |
| Encouragement to stay active and connected | Keeping the home safe and orderly |
Why this kind of help matters
A companion is often the person who notices first: uneaten food, a new bruise, unopened mail. Those small changes are worth reporting, and on our team, there is a nurse to report them to.
How it gets paid
Adult companion care and homemaker services are both covered under Medicaid Long-Term Care on your plan of care, and iBudget offers life skills development for adults. Community Care for the Elderly, through the Elder Helpline, may also help people 60 and older who are not on Medicaid. Otherwise it is private pay.
We serve families across Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties.
Questions families ask
Can a companion give medications?
No medical care. Florida rules limit what companions do. If medications are a worry, ask about nursing.
Is there a minimum number of hours?
Ask us when you call. We would rather give you a real answer for your situation than a general one here.
